A STORY FROM GLENGARRY

A crowdfunding documentary series, following the community of the Glengarry Highland games. Learning how Traditions that are 300 years pass their "due date" have somehow survived in the middle of Eastern Ontario farmland in Glengarry, Canada.

Glengarry County, Ontario a rural region bordering the province of Quebec along the St.Lawrence river in Canada, is an area steeped in history, hardworking passionate people and ties to the nations founding.  Settled in 1784 by Scottish loyalists and became a destination for Scottish emigrants from the Highland Clearances through the18th and 19th centuries.

In 1881 the Atlantic Railway established a rail line from Montreal to Ottawa through the region, and one station received the nickname of 'Macs'ville' by the french settlers in the area, due to all the Scots who lived there.

In 1948 a wee idea was brought forth by four passionate men from this town of Maxville to put on a display of Scottish heritage. Today this "small" idea has now evolved to become one of the largest gatherings of its kind outside Scotland and the North American Pipe Band Championships™,

The Glengarry Highland Games.

Learn the Traditions, Bagpipes, Highland Dancing, Heavyweight Events, Music and a return of family.  A way of life, uniquely found in Glengarry, Ontario, Canada.

www.highlandgamesmovie.com https://gofund.me/c414ac6e Tradition: A Story From Glengarry The Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders (The Glens) is a Primary Reserve infantry regiment of the Canadian Army. It is part of 33 Canadian Brigade Group, 4th Canadian Division and is headquartered in Cornwall, Ontario. 30 minutes from Maxville. The History of their Pipe Band officially goes back 154 years, but the regiment itself has a long history proudly serving and protecting Canada with ties to the founding of the nation and to the original settlers of the area. Tradition: A Story From Glengarry is a crowdfunding documentary following the community of Glengarry and the town of Maxville as they prepare for their Highland Games after two years of cancellations. Glengarry County, Ontario a rural region bordering the province of Quebec along the St.Lawrence river in Canada, is an area steeped in history, hardworking passionate people and ties to the nations founding. After two years of pent-up passion from this community of 10,000 who come from around the world, some not even having heritage ties to the event, from all walks of life, political backgrounds, income status and who call this this small rural town of 800 "home" every August. The return of this grand Tradition has much more meaning than the outcomes of the competitions. This story is about history, pride and participating in one's community and more importantly, for the people of this proud historical eastern Ontario region, getting back to a way of life. Tradition: Old Fiddle New Blood

www.highlandgamesmovie.com Tradition: Old Fiddle New Blood Ian MacLeod of the MacLeod Fiddlers has taught many the music of his Scottish ancestors and one of his protégées, Heather Flipsen is a shining example of the evolution of those traditions carrying on in the region. Heather Flipsen a twenty year old fiddle phenom may have Dutch-French ancestry in her blood, but her heart beats to the sounds of Glengarry and nothing says Glengarry more than the sounds of the Scottish Fiddle. Brought over by the early Scottish settlers to the region and quickly picked up by those who followed.  From the French who came to help cut down the timber, to the Dutch who in the post war years came to help farm the land. Present day Glengarry, although still filled with many Mc’s and Mac’s,  is like every other part of Canada, a region filled full of different cultures, beliefs and ways of life.   There is only one clan that matters these days and that is of the clan Glengarry. The evolution of the music in the region may now have different blood continuing them on, but the tunes that have the kept feet tapping and knees bopping for over 300 years and was once considered the sounds of Scotland, is merely known these days as the music of Glengarry, Ontario, Canada. Heather plays with the band Whiskey On Tap as well as playing with ‘the band’ in the area , The Brigadoons. You can catch Heather Flipsen , The MacLeod Fiddlers and the Brigadoons at the Glengarry Highland Games in Maxville, Ontario, Canada. Producer/Director

Mike Lalonde has been championing proud Canadian stories of importance for over a decade, working along award winning teams such as most recent Documentary You Are Here: A Come From Away Story which won ‘Best Documentary Program' at the 2019 Canadian Screen Awards.

With family in the area and growing up around his grandfather's farm in Green Valley, he has seen many sides of the county and Games.

But year after staring out at thousands of other people sitting in silence , listening to the haunting drone  ‘Amazing Grace’, he would ask himself…

Why are 20,000 people from around the world in Maxville right now?

A dangerous question to ask...and not an easy one to explain quickly.

"Although not affiliated with The Glengarry Highland Games, my journey and passion for this story began long ago, I am just a proud Patron of the Games and now I am looking for other passionate artists, storytellers of Glengarry and the Games community to see if they too believe this is a story of importance that the world should know about?"
