Writer's pictureTradition: A Story From Glengarry

Thank you David G. Anderson

A very sad day for Glengarry as we say goodbye and pay respect to one of its finest. David G. Anderson who passed away suddenly July 7, 2022 and was laid to rest Tuesday (12th).

A man who was born in Thunder Bay, grew up in Saskatchewan and eventually made his way to Williamstown via Montreal after falling in love with history and genealogy. He lived in the oldest house in Ontario and was stalwart in the local community, in regards to philanthropy, volunteering and his role in the preservation of local history.

I had the occasion to talk with David t or four times over the past year through email and phone, picking his brain on historical details and trying to figure out when we could arrange a time for him to take me on a tour of the area and 'spill the beans' on the multitude of stories that he knew in regards to our ancestors. From the early settlers of the region and Canada, all they way back to the highlands of Scotland, David knew them all and loved to share them with anyone who had an ear.

I last spoke to David on June the 27th and we finally decide come hell or high water we would meet at the Williamstown fair (aug 7) and start the tour from there. Im not sure if David was as excited as I, as after about a year of trying to raise enough money and have our schedules align , I was finally going to get a chance to capture David's stories. On the morning of July 5th David posted about the project on Social media announcing "he was in" on July 7th , 6pm I notice he graciously donated to the project , very shortly on the evening 7th David was taken suddenly.

I unfortunately only have very little footage of this passionate historian and have decided to release it as raw as possible so you to could get just hint of the type of man he was. Be able to see the glint in his eye when he talked history, or how he told a story and more importantly pay respect as much as I can for all the work that this man put into the community and the SDG region.

If you would like to read up on more on David's life. The Cornwall Standard Freeholder and The Review and The Glengarry news, wrote great articles on David please take the time to read them if you have a chance.

As expressions of sympathy, Memorial Donations are to be made to the Glengarry, Nor'Westers & Loyalist Museum, 19651 County Road 17, Williamstown, Ontario, K0C 2J0. https://www.glengarrynorwestersandloyalistmuseum.ca/

As a Memorial to David a tree will be planted in his memory. A tree grows – memories live.

David you were not technically a Glengarrian by blood, but boy oh boy were you definitely #glengarryproud!

I am truly sorry we did get to you before the pipes called you home.

Rest in Peace sir, it was an honour.
